Lead singer, guitarist, bassist and keyboarder Jared Leto founded the band together with his brother Shannon Leto in 1998 in their home town Los Angeles. Their self-titled debut-album was released in 2002, followed by their first European tour as support act in 2004. Only one year later, Thirty Seconds To Mars released their follow-up record "Beautiful Lie", including hit singles like "The Kill" and "From Yesterday". The album was a huge success, earning the band mulitple awards all over the world. When the band went on tour with their third record "This Is War", they received an entry in the Guiness World Records for more than 300 live shows on a single album cycle. As a promotion for the fourth album, Thirty Seconds to Mars sent the release single "Up In The Air" into space by a NASA rocket, which made it the very first commercial CD ever being in space.
To date, Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Miličević have sold more than 10 million albums and have been awarded 19 gold and 10 platinum records all around the globe.
